This rimmed plate depicts a 19th century sailor/merman with fish and a hump backed whale. The inscription reads, "cape cod winds blow so cold, cape cod boys they grow so bold": paraphrasing a line from the old whaling song. This plate is hump molded with a special undercut foot ring which facilitates wall hanging without extra hardware.
