Feather combing is a technique that was used extensively in the 17th century. It is created by laying lines of two or more colors of fluid clay slip on the surface of a clay slab. A sharp pointed tool is then dragged through the lines to create a feathered effect. When leather hard it is formed over a hump mold and a foot ring is applied. This classic plate is marbled in white and red slip. It has a traditional coggled rim and unglazed back.
