The "two doves" motif is loosley based on a sgraffito pattern Georg Hübener used on a plate in 1786. The inscription reads, "out of the earth with understanding, the potter makes everything" in Pennsyvania-German dialect. This rimless plate is hump molded with a specially thrown foot ring that facilitates simple and easy wall hanging.
